EdX offers free interactive online classes from MIT, Harvard, Berkeley and many other of the world’s top universities. Topics include classic university subjects but also many ‘non-standard’ ones like business and self development. Courses are a mix of videos, reading materials, quizzes and interactive exercises and use discussion forums to enable students to interact with each other and the course teams.
There are some innovative courses in business, entrepreneurship and business management which are well worth looking at.
There are also several self development courses such as The Science of Happiness which talks about positive psychology and teaches principles to help lead a more fulfilling and happy life. Becoming a Resilient Person looks at tools such as gratitude, values, connecting with others and mindfulness to manage stress and optimize well being.
I recently did Unlocking the Immunity Change: A New Approach to Personal Improvement which I found a real revelation. Admit it.. we all have some goal we struggle to achieve – it could be issues round weight, asking for help, charging realistically for our time or just saying ‘no’ to commitments we really don’t want to take on. The course very gently guides students through a Change Diary and encourages you to look at your goal, sabotaging behaviours, assumptions and then turns it round to gradually remove these obstacles and allow you to create tangible and lasting changes.
Short video below about the course and there is also a book Immunity to Change: How to Overcome It and Unlock the Potential in Yourself and Your Organisation which gives many examples of the process for individuals and in business and shows you how to create your own Change Diary.
